CHEF: Rico Haring - South African/Swiss
Joined Spring 2019
Rico has been in and around the hospitality industry literally before he could walk! He grew up in South Africa, born to parents (Mother - South African, Father - Swiss German) who were running the Wilderness Hotel, so he started to develop and sharpen his senses for the culinary arts at a very young age. He claims that it was right there where his “journey” packed full of flavour and taste began.
Rico moved to Switzerland when he was 5 years old, he lived there for the next 15 years. Shortly after receiving his diploma from the Culinary Institute Lausanne, he decided it was time to expand and start his career as a qualified chef. Rico followed his passion for food around the world, working in many European countries to include, Brazil, Tokyo and Australia to name just a few. He was driven by this untameable hunger and constant need to discover new flavours and spices within different cultures. Once Rico discovered the yachting industry, there was no looking back, and before long, he found himself working on mega yachts in the Caribbean. He has resided on the Caribbean island of St. Martin for 12 years, where he is happily married.
Rico loves to share his knowledge and passion for the culinary arts and for him it is not only about being a chef and preparing meals, it’s also about the lifestyle, taking the best of what Mother Earth provides in each season and in each area of the globe. He takes the spirt of all that, adds his knowledge, passion, heart and soul and creates exceptional cuisine.
Ask Rico “what is your profession?” - He will answer “I am a food artist”.
When Rico is not surrounded by pots, pans and exotic ingredients, he enjoys creating jewellery with leather, crystal & stones, as well as diving surfing, kiteboarding and hiking!

STEWARDESS: Katrina (Katie) Pretorius - South African
Joined Spring 2019
Back in South Africa, as a child, Katies’ grandfather would tell her fascinating sagas from the sea and his life as a chief engineer in the merchant navy. This inspired her to follow her heart to the sea, so after gaining a few years valuable experience in high-end hospitality establishments on land, Katie prepared herself for a new challenge with a professional, fun, and competitive work environment, and joined her first yacht in 2016 M/Y Balista.
A natural, quick learner she picked up a plethora of skills over the months and applied herself to several courses to include, cigar handling, silver service, bartending & mixology and luxury wardrobe maintenance. This together with her positive attitude and “go-getter” mindset saw Katie move swiftly though the ranks to become a valuable asset on board.
Katie likes to keep busy in her spare time and some of her hobbies include water sports-scuba diving, cycling, languages, music, travel, social events, exploration of cultures, history and the arts, and the occasional sky dive!
